Brachioplasty in Miami

Our upper arms can sometimes develop a sagging, loose appearance due to weight changes, aging, and heredity in both men and women. For some people, the unflattering appearance is not affected by any amount of exercise or dieting. Self consciousness forces many people avoid tank tops, short sleeve shirts, and cooler clothing, but it doesn’t have to be permanent.

A brachioplasty can help. Dr. Reyna performs brachioplasties, also known as upper arm lifts, for people who feel that the underside of their arms appear loose and full due to excess skin and fat stored there.

  • Eliminate sagging, drooping skin
  • Tighten and smooth surrounding tissue
  • Define the shape of the upper arm
  • Reduce excess fatty tissue of the upper arm
  • Boost confidence in sleeveless clothing

Good Candidates For Brachioplasty

Adults with significant skin laxity in their upper arms who are healthy, non-smokers are generally good candidates for arm lift surgery. It is also important for candidates to be at a relatively stable weight and not significantly overweight.

Upper Arm Lift Surgery Details

In order to perform the brachioplasty, Dr. Reyna will make one of three types of incisions. Dr. Reyna will recommend the specific type of incision for you depending on the amount of sagging and fat to be removed.

The incision will be made along the inner arm, along the back of the arm, or within the armpit. Any excess fat and skin is excised, then the underlying tissue is reshaped with internal sutures. Liposuction may also be used to remove excess fat. Dr. Reyna will then replace the remaining skin, reshaping and defining the upper arm contour.

Results and Recovery

After surgery, the new arm contour will be immediately noticeable. There will be swelling and bruising after surgery, which should diminish over the course of several weeks. Once swelling has gone down, the reshaped arm contour will be fully apparent.

Once surgery is complete, bandages and compression dressings may be used in order to minimize swelling and promote healing. Most patients can return to work within two weeks, but exercise and strenuous activity must be stopped for up to six weeks.
