Blepharoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia in about one hour. Depending on the incisions and the amount of tissue to be removed, Dr. Reyna may recommend intravenous anesthesia as well.
Dr. Reyna will make the surgical incisions where they will be concealed by the natural creases of the eyelids. For upper eyelid lifts, the incision will be made in the natural crease about the eye. For lower eyelid lifts to remove bags under the eyes, the incision is made just below the lower lash line or within the lower eyelid itself. Double eyelid surgery may include multiple incisions in order to best improve facial balance.
After the incisions are made, excess tissue and fat is removed or redistributed. The muscles and skin of the eye are tightened. Any excess skin is removed. The incisions are gently closed with surgical tape or removable sutures.
Your eyelid lift may also be combined with other common facial plastic surgery procedures, including a facelift, brow lift, or rhinoplasty. It is important to remember that these other procedures may be recommended to meet your cosmetic goal, as the overall facial aging process may have an effect on the droopiness or sagging of the skin around the eyes.
